The Awkward Man Yoga Class

The idea for this class came to me from thinking about my husband. He cannot touch his toes. I know this is a source of frustration for him, but he also believes that because of his body type (lanky) he will never be able to. He has no interest in yoga, although he has humored me a few times. For example, I taught him how to do pigeon pose to relieve sciatic pain and it was a game changer for him.

This lead me to thinking about how generally speaking, men don't want to attend a yoga class with women. I have been to classes where there were a fair amount of both and it was fine. But as a female, the yoga class is a safe space where you can be one with your mat, moving your body, flowing, without fear of getting hit on or ogled.

I think men could use a safe yoga space too. If it were a class with only men they would be released from the fear of judging eyes, or clumsiness, or distraction from yoga pant clad ladies.

Guys, listen, the benefits of yoga are many. Just consider it. Stretching offers a wide range of benefits, from increasing flexibility and improving posture to reducing muscle stiffness and tension. It enhances blood circulation, helping muscles recover and reducing the risk of injury. Regular stretching can also improve athletic performance by increasing range of motion and mobility. In addition to its physical benefits, yoga promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and can improve mental focus. It helps improve balance, coordination, and proprioception, which is particularly useful for activities requiring agility and stability. Stretching is also important for joint health, keeping them flexible and preventing stiffness. Overall, incorporating yoga into your routine can improve both physical and mental well-being. Who knows, you may even enjoy it. And I'm not going to get too far into it so that I scare you away, but the asanas (as the yoga postures are called), are just the tip of the iceberg regarding what all yoga really is.
